Goals and Motivation Equals Life.
Module # 5 Blog
Chapter 12
Motivation
was talked about so the question is what is motivation? According to(Woolfolk)
“An internal state of arouses, directs, and maintains behavior.” (p.444). Two
different types of motivation were talked about and they were Intrinsic
motivation-natural way to conquer challenges. The second one is Extrinsic
motivation-behavior driven by rewards.
Goal
orientations were discussed that we all should have goals for ourselves.
Pursuing goals are rewarding because you get a sense of accomplishment. The
self-determination was interesting because it was saying we all need to feel confident and capable in the
world and have a sense of control in our lives. I myself like to set short term
goals because I feel I accomplish more. I do have long term goals but setting
shorter ones gives me more of a sense of accomplishment sooner rather than
later. I think it will be important to discuss goals with my students and help
them make goals for themselves.
I found the
Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs pyramid on page # 449 interesting.
Maslow’s theory
gives us a way to look at the whole student. We all have needs and need to have
self- determination. Emotions and anxiety were discussed that learning can be
influenced by mood and emotion. It’s our jobs to help students not be so
nervous so students can learn. I will be able to relate to my students because
I have anxiety and work myself up all the time. Seeing as I am self-aware of my
anxious thoughts I will be able to relate to what my students might be feeling
for those who get anxious. This program has really made me anxious because it’s
so fast paced and I guess that I never realized how fast it would be and how
demanding. Just when I get used to the flow of the class another one starts. I
use self- talk on myself and tell myself just to take one week at a time that’s
helping a little.
Overall, I think this chapter was interesting
it cover many good topics and some of them I can relate to myself.
Amy,
ReplyDeleteI like that you used a visual in your blog. Sometimes the visuals make things more understandable. I too, like to set short-term goals, but at the same time, I like to see the big picture as well.
Amy,
ReplyDeleteI like the way you put the Maslow theory on your blog. I agree with short- term goals right now; our classes are 6-8 weeks. I think we understand what are long term goals are we just need to get through class by class right now- short-term is a good way to keep the stress levels down.
I agree with the other ladies i totally agree visuals are so important. i think we forget to include them because we are grown up,but i know kids enjoy them as much as we do. one of my favorite theories is the Maslow's because its so fascinating to me.
